LA Mart has roots in Downtown Los Angeles going back to 1958. In the mid-1920s and ’30s, when the city’s home furnishing industry was growing on East Seventh Street near Santa Fe Avenue, furniture was brought in by train and taken to the first Los Angeles Furniture Mart, at 2155 E. Seventh St. By the 1940s, that building had become too small for the growing industry. In 1949, executives in the furniture industry purchased 4.25 acres on Washington Boulevard between Broadway and Hill Street.*
The L.A. Mart opened July 14, 1958, as the “Los Angeles Furniture Mart.” And now, 65 years later, we are still here in the heart of LA.
